FED: Vitamins linked to breast cancer: study

Australia's 2.5 billion dollar complementary health industry is urging consumers not
to panic .. after a study linked a daily intake of multi-vitamins with an increased risk
of breast cancer.

The 10 year study of more than 35 thousand women found those who regularly took a multi-vitamin
pill increased the risk of developing a tumour by 19 per cent.

News Limited says the results have been greeted with interest and caution by Australian experts.

Researchers say one plausible explanation is that taking vitamin and mineral supplements
significantly increases the density of breast tissue .. a strong risk factor for breast
cancer.
