HERE'S A PEEK INTO THE '90S BY LOCAL ECONOMISTS.(Business)

Economic uncertainty will temper the investment and business projections for 1990 and beyond, but there are opportunities ahead as the United States attempts to forge its own niche in a global economy.

That's the message from several economists and analysts who came to the Capital District for a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute symposium at which they underscored particular trends they said are most likely to affect the financial and economic prospects in the United States.

The group of experts included Robert Stovall, president of Twenty-First Advisors; Hugh A. Johnson, chief investment officer for First Albany Corp.; and Francis E. James Jr., president of James Investment Research Inc.

Stovall said there are a number of elements that will significantly impact companies in the next decade.
