Tas: David Crean quits as Tasmanian Treasurer

Tasmanian Treasurer DAVID CREAN has announced he's retiring from politics for health reasons.

The younger brother of former federal Labor party leader SIMON CREAN has had kidney
disease for a long time.

Dr CREAN says it'd be wrong to continue serving as MP for the upper house seat of Elwick
when he can't guarantee he'll be able to see out another six years.

The 53-year-old has held the seat since 1992 and became treasurer in 1998.
